Runcorn Town progressed through to the Preliminary Round of the Emitrates FA Cup after a 3-2 victory over fellow Hallmark Security League side AFC Darwen.
Darwen have never won a game in the World's oldest cup competition, but took the lead in the 7th minute when from a corner on the right, Matt Allen headed powerfully home from 6 yards. Town equalised in the 14th minute when a Paul McManus corner found Marcus James at the back post, he headed the ball back across the goal to an unmarked Craig Cairns who turned it into the net.
Town took the lead in the 34th minute when Rob Doran headed the ball into the path of Craig Cairns who rounded the keeper before side footing the ball into the empty net. But Darwen were level in the 56th minute from the penalty spot when McManus fouled in the box, with Mark McKay bringing the two teams level as he found the bottom corner.
Just as a replay looked likely in the 90th min, Darwen had a great chance to secure victory, a pinpoint cross from Mo Nabeel found Alex Ralph who fired over the bar from 6 yards. From the goal kick, Doran headed on to Cairns who was brought down in the area by Lonsdale. From the resultant penalty Craig Cairns hammered the ball home in the 3rd min of added on time to secure victory.
